Waukegan PrideDrive 2021 highlights city’s diversity; ‘It is an inspiring time’

Organizers of Waukegan PrideDrive 2021 said there was more to the event this year thanks to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

“It is a bigger and better Pride celebration than Waukegan organizations have tackled in the past,” said Teddi Dunham, event co-chair and volunteer with Waukegan Friends.

Waukegan Friends partnered with Waukegan Main Street, the city of Waukegan, the Lake County health department and other Lake County organizations to produce Saturday’s event, which included a CandyWauk and a festive “How Sweet It Is” theme.

“The lifting of some COVID-19 restrictions has allowed us to expand on last year’s PrideDrive by adding a resource fair and after-party, complete with drag queens and kings, to the lineup,” said Dunham, a Waukegan resident since 1981.

Waukegan Friends is a not-for-profit organization that focuses on community.
